SCIP-CIP™ CERTIFICATION Conferred by ACI
Meeting the Demand
for CI Professional Certification
The SCIP/ACI certification partnership has been extremely successful in its first year.
Last month, the first core course (CI 101®) in the SCIP CIP™ Certification Conferred by ACI program was held in Singapore in conjunction with the SCIP 2011 Asia Pacific. In our first offering of certificate courses in Asia, over 30 individuals experienced a totally new concept in training, separate from the traditional conference format. These professionals were very enthusiastic participants, and the experience left everyone asking for more.
Also in October, all five core courses of the certification program (CIP™-I) were offered sequentially in Brazil. In partnership with The Fuld-Gilad-Herring Academy of Competitive Intelligence, Fernando de Almeida of ADVS Brasil conducted these courses in Portuguese: local language, local flavor, same professional content. The high level of participation in this set of courses reflected the deep and growing interest in Brazil to establish a solid professional certification program. With the continuing membership expansion of the SCIP Brazil chapter, ably led by Edson Ito, we anticipate increasing demand for certification training in this geographical area.
This month, SCIP offered the initial core certification course (CI 101®) in conjunction with the SCIP 2011 European conference. This first step in the path towards certification was the largest attended workshop of the conference. We fully expect many of these individuals to continue their education when we offer the CIP™-I core level of certification training in Brussels, March 19-23, 2012.
Two newly-minted SCIP/Academy alumni who attended the CI 101® course at SCIP 2011 Europe summed up their experience:
“Great opportunity to hear it from Leonard himself, and meet colleagues who are similarly starting or building a market intelligence function. A diverse and high level group of executives.”
—Jose Ortiz, D. Swarovski & Co.
“It is truly a 101 course, it covers the full area.”
—Mattias Lundgren, Volvo
The number of people attending our Boston training is up dramatically as well, along with the number of individuals sitting for the certification examinations. In 2012, SCIP will continue to link certification training with all four of their conferences. This provides attendees the ability to start on the path to certification before attending the broader-based conference.
SCIP’s experience in 2011 has shown that many competitive intelligence professionals are serious about acquiring certification by completing the two levels of the program (CIP™-I and CIP™-II). To meet this growing demand, we are looking at opportunities to expand the certification environment into other geographic areas.
A well-constructed competitive intelligence program is the most effective organizational method of managing industry risk, responding to early signals of industry change and, ultimately, achieving a sustainable competitive advantage. The SCIP CIP™ program, vetted by third-party experts in continuing education, provides the gold standard in competitive intelligence certification.
